ISRO has completed more than 130 spacecraft missions and 100 launch missions, with several more currently in the pipeline. Uncover India’s journey in space exploration with its spacecraft, symbolizing scientific prowess and technological advancement.

Indian Space Programs

India’s space ambitions extend beyond Earth’s orbit, with plans for future interplanetary missions, including the proposed Gaganyaan human spaceflight program (and Gaganyaan spacecraft) aimed at sending Indian astronauts to space. ISRO’s commitment to innovation, affordability, and self-reliance in space technology underscores its role as a key player in the global space community, advancing scientific knowledge and fostering socio-economic development through space exploration.

Highlight: Axiom Mission 4

While Gaganyaan represents India’s independent crewed space ambitions, Ax‑4 offered a unique first: it enabled an Indian astronaut, Shubhanshu Shukla, to participate in a commercial mission to the International Space Station (ISS). During his 18-day stay aboard the ISS, Shukla engaged in a wide range of scientific investigations developed by ISRO and leading Indian research institutions. These included experiments exploring the cognitive effects of prolonged screen use in microgravity, the adaptation of microbial communities to space conditions, the physiological impacts of muscle atrophy in low gravity, and studies on crop growth and resilience in space environments.
